Fun With Fabric Scraps

It's so much fun to make things with scraps of fabric that some people would just toss. We organized our scraps by color and got to work.

We decorated the store with a couple of styrofoam wreaths covered in long strips of scrap fabric sewn together and embellished with little fabric roses, made using smaller strips of fabric scraps and a glue gun.

We made Christmas bulbs to hang in the store window - again using long strips of scrap fabric wrapped round and round and round different sized styrofoam balls.

We made little lavender sachets using locally grown lavender lovingly cleaned by our very own Ellen. These are for sale and make the perfect small "I'm Thinking of You" gift - $3.00 each!

We made wine bags that have been flying out the door - and up until now we haven't even promoted them. But rest assured that we are busy making a whole bunch more - $7.95 each!

And we are even selling small scrap fabric bags - a mishmash of sizes - empty for $2.00 each!

Stop by the store and we will be happy to share crafty tips on how we made these goodies. Maybe you even have some fabric scrap tips for us!

Ho Ho Ho 'tis the season for fun!

I have a Crush!

I have a great big crush on these fantastic fabrics from designer Anna Maria Horner. They are from her new fabric line: "Innocent Crush".

Their fabulousness overwhelms me and I feel myself growing weaker by the day - succumbing to their siren call.

I suspect that we shall soon have these available as napkins at Picking Daisies.

Don't you think we should?!

Sunset's Savor the Central Coast

We've been busy little napkin makers these last few weeks in happy preparation for Sunset Magazine's food and wine festival "Savor the Central Coast" which takes place October 2nd and 3rd at the beautiful Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita, California.

There will be much to do and see at this event, and I encourage you to check the "Savor" website for all the details.

There is a wonderful kitchen garden that has been planted. You will be able to tour this garden as well as attend events and seminars using freshly grown goodies from this garden.

Picking Daisies will be part of The Main Event, selling and showing off our wonderful napkins. We are excited to be there along with the Central Coast's finest food, wine and culinary vendors.

Farm-fresh breakfast anyone? ... Our napkin rental collection will be garnishing the dining tables during the Fresh From the Fields breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

See you at the ranch!

And yes, there will be chickens!

Farmdale Napkins

We've been waiting for what seems like ages for Alexander Henry's wonderful Farmdale fabrics to arrive. Take a look at how adorable they are and you'll know why we were so anxious to get our hands on them.

Their fabric names are (l-r clockwise) Blossom, Crossing, Curio, and Delicious. We got busy right away sewing them into our wonderful napkins and they are now available either in the set you see above, or individually.

Whooo picked this fabric?

This "Spotted Owl" print just landed at Picking Daisies.

We acquired a small amount of this fabric a few months ago, and it flew out the door.

Now we finally have enough yardage to make enough napkins and bags that we can offer them on our website.

In addition to the lovely Natural color, we also have this fabric in Green Tea and Smoke.

Give a HOOT - make the switch to cloth napkins!

Comfortable Napkins

Most of our napkins are made from fabrics with vibrant, colorful, bold prints. But we fell in love with this line from fabric designer Tanya Whelan.

They have such a comfortable and flowing look to them that I am tempted to sew up some new bed sheets so that I can wrap myself up in their softness each and every night. But in the meantime, we are enjoying them on our table display:

The Picking Daisies Bike

Picking Daisies is the proud owner of a new-to-us vintage bike. After a little sprucing up and the addition of a sign, it is looking quite smart.

And it is going to be working hard for us parked out on Higuera Street for all to see. We hope you enjoy seeing it as you drive by!
